Gero Axular Dantza Taldea

GERO was founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting and enhancing the prestige of Euskal Dantza (Basque traditional dance) as a cultural leisure activity. Beyond preserving and safeguarding our culture, GERO seeks to explore this cultural expression in greater depth and encourage young people to take an active role in the project. As a result of this commitment, eight productions have been created to date: Sasi Artean, Lamien Basoa, Talaia, Xereta, Argizaiola, Itzal Galdua, Agorrila, and Higa. In all of these works, the goal has been to give a new “outfit” to our traditional dances and music. To achieve this, the dances have been reinterpreted, accompanied by new musical arrangements, enhanced through lighting design, and combined with contemporary instruments and techniques, resulting in modern, engaging, and emotionally powerful performances.

By 2023, Gero Axular Dantza Taldea had participated in 52 international festivals and performed more than 292 times abroad, including in France, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Wales, Scotland, Serbia, Croatia, Denmark, Slovenia, and Greece, achieving great success in each of these countries. Among its most notable achievements are the awards won at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in 2011: First Prize in the Traditional Dance Group category and First Prize in the Individual Dancer category. At the festival in Grozny, Chechnya, in October 2016, the group received an award from the Ministry of Culture. In 2023, Gero Axular was also one of only nine groups worldwide selected to participate in the first International Folklore Festival of Taiyuan.

On this occasion, Gero Axular Dantza Taldea will present its production “Agoteak.”
