La Orquesta Mondragón
In 2026, the Orquesta Mondragón reaches a historic milestone: 50 years on stage. Half a century of musical adventures—rock, blues, pop, and irreverent humor—that have turned the band into a unique phenomenon in Spanish popular culture.
Led by the San Sebastián native Javier Gurruchaga, the driving force and founder of Orquesta Mondragón in 1976, and one of the most popular showmen of the past decades, the band has been a reference point in the Spanish music scene. In its early years, the group rested on two great stage pillars: the singer Javier -funny and eccentric- and Popotxo Ayestarán, a comedian who, using only mime, turned each song into a small humorous gag.
This 50th anniversary is not only a look back at the past, but also a reaffirmation of the present: Orquesta Mondragón is still on the road, alive and energetic, ready to prove that the party goes on. Ladies and gentlemen, pasen y vean (step right in and see for yourselves), the show must go on…
