Alurr Dantza Taldea is a Basque dance group from Ibarra (Gipuzkoa). The group began its journey in 1995, and based on traditional Basque dance, it has become a personal project with a perspective that goes beyond dance. Based on the tradition, it has been able to acquire an innovative identity; and fusing traditional Basque dance with both classical and contemporary dance, the group has been able to bring this fusion to its music, its rhythms and its clothing.
The group has been offering their shows above all in the different provinces of the Basque Country, but throughout these years they have also had the opportunity to offer their dances in different places beyond the Basque Country, such as France, Slovenia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Galicia or Catalonia.
For years we Basques have worked at all sorts of traditional trades, each with its own tools. And in the Basque Country we have often given those tools a new use related to folklore. In this show brought to us today – entitled ‘Laia’ – the Alurr Dantza Taldea will show us these tools and how they were used. The performance plays out a variety of situations set around life in the last century.
