How did pirates live? Who were the men behind the legend? To answer this question, our film follows two extraordinary archaeological research projects in Mauritius and Madagascar. Only a few sunken pirate ships have been found to date. A team of archaeologists is now carrying out underwater surveys in the western Indian Ocean in search of the remains of the Speaker, a famous pirate ship which sank in 1702. On dry land, meanwhile, backup research is also being carried out on the Sainte-Marie island, where the pirates hid and lived. This research provides us with clues and tangible proof of the mysterious lives these men led.
