Is there any future for the sea, or is it to doomed to become a blue desert? The Spanish Oceanography Institute is working to secure a sustainable, healthy ocean in a race against the clock.
The oceans have reached a critical point in terms of their future. Problems arising from overfishing, the health of sea habitats and pollution require immediate attention. Only science can furnish a response to these threats, and so the UN has declared the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. In Spain, the Spanish Oceanography Institute is heading up this mission against the clock to guarantee a future in which the ocean and human beings can live together in equilibrium.
